Inflammation, the Silent Enemy by Mike Kennedy
Inflammation, the Silent Enemy by Mike Kennedy M.D.
If you had to use one word to describe what diseases like obesity, rheumatoid arthritis,
osteoarthritis, heart disease, diabetes, gout, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome have in common, what would it be? What one word do they have in common?
The word is inflammation. The inflammatory response is out of control in these diseases and is causing much pain and suffering—the silent enemy. Notice that I said out of control. Inflammation is a normal function and necessary for survival.
The inflammatory response attacks unwanted intruders, protects us from cancerous cell mutations, and is a part of our defense mechanism. When this response is out of control and a generalized inflammation occurs throughout the body then there are problems.
Most people understand arthritis as an inflammatory disease, but inflammation being involved in diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity might surprise you.
Let’s take obesity for instance. Fat cells are not dormant cells that simply store fat. They are very active organs secreting hormones and telling the brain and other parts of the body what to do. Unfortunately, when they are acting in this capacity, they are creating a “hostile take over” of your body. They are decreasing chemicals called leptin, which causes you to be hungry, increasing insulin, which increases your appetite and prevents the break down of fat cells, and they are secreting inflammatory chemicals called cytokines, which create an inflammatory response through out your body causing you to have achy muscles, tendons, and joints. By creating an inflammatory response, this “hostile take over” slows your body movement and therefore prevents you from burning calories, so you get fatter and more inflamed.
Your doctor has
medications to treat this inflammation, but several of them are being removed from the market because they increase the chances of heart disease. Just recently Vioxx and Bextra have been removed. Because of this deadly duo of obesity and inflammation, Monavie was created. The product line addresses many of the aspects of chronic inflammation by supplementing a variety of nutritious fruits like the acai berry (phytochemicals), glucosamine to rebuild cartilage, and Celedrin to naturally fight inflammation. If you can control inflammation by natural means, you are much better off than taking a medication for it. Medications are good, but they have side effects like bleeding ulcers, stomach pain, and interaction with other medications.
Remember, Monavie products are supplements and not substitutes for good nutrition. That is why your Medical Advisory Board created the Forever Fit program, which combines Eat Fit (a guide to balanced nutrition and healthy supplements like Energy Shakes, Essential vitamins, and Energy Bars), Get Fit (exercise personally designed for your needs), and Live Fit (education and “Coaching in a Box”).
If you want to fight inflammation, you should focus on becoming Forever Fit and by taking your Monavie every day.
